Lightning sign free agent Parrish

Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced the Tampa Bay Lightning have signed Mark Parrish to a one-year, two-way contract. Parrish has been assigned to the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League.
In 42 games with the Admirals this season, he has 12 goals and 25 points, tying him for second on the club in points and third in goals. He leads Norfolk in goals, points and plus/minus during the team's previous 26 games with nine goals, 20 points. A veteran of ten National Hockey League seasons, Parrish has appeared in 704 career NHL games with the Florida Panthers, Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars, recording 216 goals and 169 assists in those games.

Parrish, who appeared in the 2002 NHL All-Star Game, was originally a third round draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. Parrish appeared in 44 NHL games last season with the Stars, recording eight goals and five assists. Parrish has appeared in 48 career AHL games with the Admirals, Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the Beast of New Haven, scoring 15 goals and 29 points.

Capitals recall defenseman John Carlson

Vice president and general manager George McPhee announced that The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman John Carlson from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League. Carlson ranks tied for 11th among AHL defensemen with 25 points in 32 games. He is tied for 10th in the league with a +17 rating.

January is a busy month for Carlson. He played in two games for the Capitals last week, represented the Bears in Portland on Tuesday in the AHL All-Star Game and led the U.S. National Junior Team to a gold medal in the World Junior Championship this month, scoring two goals in the gold-medal game. Carlson has played five games for the Capitals this season, averaging 14:34 of ice time with a +4 rating. The Capitals selected Carlson in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft with the 27th overall selection. Hope he can play well in the capitals jersey.

Capitals assigned Nylander to AHL

Caps General Manager George McPhee announced last weekend that the Washington Capitals have sent center Michael Nylander to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.

Nylander has played 920 career NHL games for the Capitals, New York Rangers, Boston, Chicago, Tampa Bay, Calgary and Hartford. He has not played an NHL game in the nhl jersey this season.

Blackhawks reassign Skille to AHL's Rockford

The Chicago Blackhawks have reassigned right wing Jack Skille to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs. Skille was held scoreless on Saturday in the Blackhawks’ win over the Colorado Avalanche during his debut with the club. Skille was the seventh overall pick in the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft, and he registered one goal in three North American preseason games with Chicago before being held scoreless in the team’s two contests in Zurich, Switzerland. He has appeared in 25 games with the Blackhawks over the last three seasons, collecting six points.

The Blackhawks host the Calgary Flames at the United Center on Monday at 7:00 P.M. The game can be seen locally on VERSUS and heard on Chicago’s WGN Radio.
